I've recently begun a lengthy series of blog posts all about renowned illustrator Eric Parker (check out his Wikipedia entry here) who had a 50 year (!) career as a comic illustrator.

The War Office needs you!

Here's a comic aimed (by the War Office) at recruiting young lads into the Boys' Unit (and ultimately the army). Rare. It was up for sale earlier this year by this seller on ebay

Here's a great piece that was on sale earlier this year on the (always essential) Britcomicsart website here - it could have been mine (or yours!) for $300

And here's the final version of the cover (from here)

Jane's calendar 1947, the 2nd one

I've looked before at the work of Normat Pett (here) and his creation Jane (here) and recently spotted this rare piece of Jane merchandise for sale. I've swiped the images for posterity and note that this 1947 calendar has different images on it to this calendar that I blogged about in 2022

UPDATED: Zip comic (1958/9) - covers gallery

I've long wondered about collecting Zip comic but it seems to turn up so infrequently to make that impossible. It lasted 85 issues and there were 2 annuals too. So, instead of collecting it I thought I'd start a covers gallery instead.

Now updated with covers for issue 2, 3, 4 & 5

Zip comic #1, January 4th 1958

Zip comic #2, January 11th 1958

Zip comic #3, January 18th 1958

Zip comic #4, January 25th 1958

Zip comic #5, February 1st 1958

Zip comic #7, February 15th 1958

Zip comic #13, February 15th 1958

Zip comic #44, November 1st 1958

Zip comic #46, November 15th 1958

Garth of the Daily Mirror - rare jigsaw

As a companion piece to yesterday's piece here's that other jigsaw that I mentioned. As you can see the subject is that other very popular newspaper strip Garth. This was up for sale on ebay a few months ago (for a B-I-N price for £99.52).

All other mentions of Garth on the blog can be found here

Rare jigsaw featuring Jane of the Daily Mirror

I'm always happy to update a blog posting, so here's an update to a February 2019 posting (here) about a rare piece of Jane merchandise. A jigsaw entitled 'A fancy dress "affair"'. This was up for sale on ebay a few months ago...

...it turns out that there was a 'sister' jigsaw to this one, we'll see that tomorrow

So, without further ado, here's part 4 of my covers gallery for this 24 issues series...

All images are c/o friend of the blog Richard Gilham. Thanks very much!
