The A5 sized, 32 page brochure for Comics 2002 is graced with a Frank Quitely cover. Yet again Kev Sutherland put together an absolutely massive event across Bristol with over 150 writers, artists, editors, publishers and the like

UPDATED: Popeye the sailor - Marvel UK

Michael Carroll's timeline of Marvel UK comics (here) has an array of interestingly short-lived comics on that I thought I should create cover galleries for them. Sometimes this is easier said than done but let's look at the 8 issue Popeye comic from 1989.

Updated with the cover to issue #2

Popeye the sailor, issue #1, February 1989, 45p

Popeye the sailor, issue #2, March 1989, 45p

Popeye the sailor, issue #3, April 1989, 45p
image not to hand - can you help?

Popeye the sailor, issue #4, May 1989, 45p
image not to hand - can you help?

Popeye the sailor, issue #5, June 1989, 45p

Popeye the sailor, issue #6, July 1989, 45p

Popeye the sailor, issue #7, August 1989, 45p

There was also, it turns out, a Winter Special too - 32 pages in length

Dan Dare space shooting

I'm always happy to feature unusual bits of Eagle merchandise on the blog.
There were...
Dan Dare roller skates here
Dan Dare hairbrush here
Dan Dare tie clip here
Eagle stationery here
Eagle club notebook here
With the compliments of the Eagle club here
Eagle / Girl table tennis medals here
Eagle club cycle pennant here
Dan Dare gyro jeep here

Today I present 'Dan Dare space shooting' - as ever the box is far superior to the contents.

All images swiped from a recent ebay sale - and I have to say the box is in fabulous condition

Eaglecon 80 - part 4

It occurs to me that I've not covered anything to do with the very first Eagle comic convention - Eaglecon 80. A recent sale by ace ebay seller phil-comics (here) of one of the awards from Eaglecon 80 (see below) for £155 has inspired me to start looking images.

I looked at some initial images here
We had images about what was on display here
images of the original art that was on display here

All these images are from the late, great Eagle & Dan Dare historian Adrian Perkins.

And now some images from the awards dinner...
