Cartoonists Club of Great Britian (4)

If all of this has whetted your appetite for all things CCGB then they are still very much around and can be contacted here
http://ccgb.org.uk/wordpress/

I'll leave you with some scans of the history of the (drinking) escapades of the club which are recounted in this 150 page A5 volume from 1996. These stories go all the way back to the beginning of the club and highlights for instance, trips to Billy Butlin's holiday camps and much besides. Much fun.

At one point the Cartoon Museum in London has multiple copies of this for sale but they don't seem to have them any more. Good luck tracking it down!

  1. Very interesting, each event held at Butlins (Pwllhlei, North Wales) would be commemorated by the cartoonists in attendance by having them all sign and draw cartoons on a large sheet of plywood around 6 foot long) painted white. Each one of these plywood sheets were then mounted in the dining hall (protected by a sheet of clear Perspex) I was at the camp in 1995 and saw them all.
The camp later became part of Haven Holidays in 1999 and Bourne Leisure in 2000 and I worked there between 2001 and 2002 and saw all the plywood sheets again this time stacked up in the corner of the main office. Presumably taken down during renovation and probably not put up again because they refrenced the old Butlins camp. I often wonder what became of them as they had many great names on them.

I also attended a cartoon gallery show at the Plas Glyn y Weddw gallery in Llanbedrog not that far from the Pwllheli camp around 1987 or 88 and I have been wondering if it was related to these outings...
