The Bozeman Trail original art - Riders of the range

Vincent Ealand-Hicks was generous to share these images on the 'Eagle and Dan Dare collectors' Facebook group and he's allowed me to record their existence for posterity. 

'The Bozeman Trail' book is hard to find in really good condition (the spine always seems to have suffered) so it's always good to see a copy in good condition. I've never seen any of the original art (by Pat Williams) before.

Eaglecon 80 - part 5

It occurs to me that I've not covered anything to do with the very first Eagle comic convention - Eaglecon 80. A recent sale by ace ebay seller phil-comics (here) of one of the awards from Eaglecon 80 (see below) for £155 has inspired me to start looking images.

original Eagle autographs

There's a (pricey!) but interesting item currently for sale on ebay (here) of a selection of autographs of original Eagle contributors...

I suspect that the Hampson autograph is quite early in his career as it doesn't look like his 'normal' autograph from when he was signing items in the late '70s and early '80s - the Dragon's Dream reprints or items from Eaglecon 80. The 'F' and the 'H' are curlier than normal, compare to the signature on this item for instance...

Talking of autographs - here are some signatures that one dedicated fan collected at Eaglecon 80 from...Macdonald hastings, Marcus Morris, Frank Hampson, (art editor) Arthur Roberts, Keith Watson, Charles Chilton, Frank Humphris, Derek Lord, Chad Varah and Richard Jennings

I've tipped the above signatures in my 'signed by lots of original Eagle people' book - here we can see Roy Cross, Derek Lord, Chad Varah, John Batchelor, Greta Tomlinson, John Ryan, Ray Bailey, Gerald Palmer, John M Burns and Paul Trevillion.

Infinity magazine #10 out now!

This is issue 10 of Infinity magazine so it's hardly a new magazine but it's pretty new to me and at £3.99 it's well worth taking a punt on.

This issue has, as its lead article no less, a 4 page feature on radio series Journey into space. Not many magazines would lead with a feature on a radio programme, let alone one first broadcast in the 1950s but Infinity seems happy to be aimed at the retro end of the sci fi market and good luck to it.

...which does also crossover into the Dan Dare radio series on radio Luxembourg and some other SF radio dramas. 


Retro also, clearly, covers the '70s so there's also a 4-page feature on short-lived TV show (and The Sweeney imitation) Target which also recalls the short-lived (18 issues only folks) Target comic that was published in 1978. Featuring strips based on Charlie's Angels, Kojak, Cannon and Hazel it appears that the only pantone they had access to was 'garish'.  

There's loads of other stuff as well (Buck Rogers, Blake's 7, 2001, The Clangers) that I'll leave you to discover for yourself.
