Sleeze Brothers - Epic comics

I've looked before (here) at the very obscure World of Wym title that was published in 1990. Somehow at the time I forgot to mention the title which the Wym creators are most famous for - yes it's the Sleeze Brothers. A loving nod to the blues brothers? I think so. Lots of scifi silliness here, well worth checking out.

All for sale right here (& in other places too but this is where I got most of the images from)

UPDATED: Jonny Quest - The Real Adventures

Now updated with a copy of the cover for issue #4

I own issues 1 & 2

I've updated this post on new information - all updates in fuchsia - last updated 19th October 2021.

I've looked before at comics from Titan Comics (here) and I wanted to look at another title I know very little about, published by Titan Magazines. Jonny Quest - The Real Adventures ran in 1996/7. Six issues were definitely released, and up to nine were advertised.

The title reprinted strip material previously published by Dark Horse Comics as The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, based on the animated updated version of the 1960s original show. That series ran for twelve issues and three specials, but Titan’s title did not run the course due to disappointing sales, the TV series not proving a success in the UK.

Titan's issues were not, as noted on the Jonny Quest Fandom Wiki here, a direct re-release of the Dark Horse versions, and they released the stories in different order. For instance, the Dark Horse issues #1-4 included the story "Net of Chaos" in four chapters, while the Titan  Magazines issues 3 and 6 (and presumably issues 4 and 5) include chapters of this story. The story "Hell on Earth: The Movie" was in Dark Horse issue #7, but Titan issue 3 includes this story instead.

One of the feature writers was "Paul Travers", a pseudonym for editor John Freeman.

The Dark Horse comic strip editor throughout was Phil Amara.

So, without further ado, here's my covers gallery. As ever, there are a few gaps, so if you can help out do let me know.

I've now looked at the British Library catalogue for this comic and it has it lasting only six issues. I'll therefore discount the existence of issues 7-9 (despite issue 9 being solicited in issue #82 (June 1997) of Comics International).

Rock Garden - the menu in the style of a comic (#4)

Ages ago (back in August 2021 - here to be precise) I covered issue #1 (dated 1st April 1978) of the menu at the Rock garden restaurant in Covent Garden. Then in December 2025 (here to be precise) I looked at issue #5

And now, amazingly, issue #4 of the menu / comic has turned up!

For reference the cover dates are as follows...
Issue #1 was dated 1st April 1978 [8 pages]
Issue #4 is dated 19th May 1980 [8 pages]
Issue #5 was dated 1st April 1983 [12 pages]
...I had speculated that this was an annual-ish publication but in fact issues 1-4 came out in the first 2 years and then there was a gap of 3 years until issue #5. It's all to do with inflation I'm sure.

Anyway, here's issue #4

Quizzer issue #9 - Ian Kennedy art

Back in 2008 (!) here I wrote (along with friend of the blog Jeremy Briggs) about Quizzer magazine on Steve Holland's amazing 'Bear Alley'. Since then I've featured Quizzer on the blog a couple of times...

Some Ian Kennedy art from issue 7 here
Some Ian Kennedy art from issue 10 here

And now a recent sale from the Book Palace (their website is here) had this half-page from issue #9 up for sale. It wasn't up for sale very long! Price was £325 I think.

Not Kennedy's best work (in my very humble opinion!) - I like the final frame the most but there you go, opportunities to acquire Ian's work don't come up very often so you have to make the most of 'em!

All other mention of Quizzer on the blog can be found here

Small press comics - Isabel Greenberg

I've long been a fan of the work of Isabel Greenberg (check out her website here) and I have a number of her longer comics work (The encyclopedia of early Earth, One hundred nights of hero and Glass town) but I don't know enough about her small press work.

These images below are (mainly) from my own collection but I'd love to know what other titles she might have produced. Any help much appreciated.

Love in a very cold climate - Isabel Greenberg
This was the name of the short story that won Isabel the Obsever/Cape graphic short story prize (see here) so I wonder if this came before or after the prize??

Dreadful wind and rain - Isabel Greenberg
published October 2014
Described here thus...

A short comic based on the traditional folk ballad The Two Sisters. This book was made for an exhibition at Cecil Sharp House with the English Folk Dance and Song Society, and printed with a risograph.

The tale tells of two sisters, seduced by the same lover, and the ruinous consequences that followed. The story can also be found in the graphic novel The One Hundred Nights of Hero.

The river of lost souls - Isabel Greenberg
Described here thus...
A short story commissioned by the Guardian for a series on water, entitled The River of Lost Souls.

Toad, episode one - Isabel Greenberg
Described here thus...
A self-published risographed comic, written by Alexis Deacon and illustrated by Isabel Greenberg.

Confinement - Isabel Greenberg
From 2023 - more details here - this will be published in full in 2028 (!)
