Dad's army comic

An oddity here...a comic strip of Dad's army. Written by RAG Clarke and illustrated by Bill Titcombe. I'm unclear if this is wholly new material or just reprints from TV comic. Can anyone help me?

This is what down the tubes have to say about the "Dad's Army" strip...began in TV comic issue 1058 (cover dated 25th March 1972) its first run in the comic continuing until Issue 1100 (cover dated 13th January 1973) then moving to TV Action. When that title merged with TV Comic with Issue 1133 (cover dated 1st September 1973) "Dad's Army" returned until issue 1275 (cover dated 22nd May 1976).

The only similar volume I can think of is Daily Star newspaper strip volume of Last of the summer wine strips that they ran.

I'm always delighted to feature newspaper strips on the blog (see this link for all mentions of newspaper strips so far) especially one-off collections.

The Daily Star newspaper most notably had a Judge Dredd strip in it for many years but it also had other strips and it's those that I'm more interested in. 

So far there's Ben & Katie (here) which was their version of George & Lynne. We can now add Last of the summer wine to that list. Only one reprint volume was produced (see images below - all taken from here - thanks!)

Art was by prolific cartoonist Roger Mahoney.

Ben & Katie - newspaper strip

As a 'sequel' to yesterday's post about George and Lynne here's another 'strip' reprint collection that collectors should be on the lookout for. Yes, it's George & Lynne knockoff's Ben & Katie. 

According to this link the story was indeed a rip-off of George & Lynne. 

This single volume of reprints was produced in 1989. 

The strip ran from 1988-97 and was later illustrated by Luis Roca.

Ron Smith original art up for auction

Ron Smith art doesn't seem to come up for auction very often but right now there are 3 pages up for auction on ebay. I'm not the seller.

a Daily Star Judge Dredd strip is here - currently this has been bid up to £620

I remember seeing a couple of boxes of these outside a London comics shop years ago - they were priced at £30 each and at the time that was out of my price range. My loss.
