2000ad con - my photos - part 1

2000ad con photographs

I'm at John Wagner's table looking at the back of Carlos Ezquerra's head and he has Jesus Redondo to his right and then Simon Bisley in the check shirt

2000ad con - bits & pieces (5)

A bit of an odd one this, and to take it into a 2000ad con felt a bit like smuggling contraband, but here's Glenn Fabry's cover for Eagle and Battle, dated 6th February 1988. Yep, that's right the Glenn Fabry.

As you can see Glenn was kind enough to sign it for me. This was the only work that Glenn did for new Eagle and it's obscure enough not to merit a mention on his Wikipedia entry. I was amazed that he'd worked on new Eagle so was chuffed to get to finally meet him on Saturday.

2000ad con - bits & pieces (4)

I've admired Chris Weston's art for ages so was pleased to be able to pick this up from him on Saturday (apparently he only sells it at conventions)

With thanks to...and a Dan Dare thumbnail for me
The book has a number of commissions (Dan Dare, the Spider, Judges, Miracle Man, Black Max) that would appeal to collectors of British comics but I'm not going to post them here I'm afraid, you'll have to give Chris some of your hard earned cash.

For any Peter Milligan fans out there...
Here's a copy of the hard to find "Rogan Gosh - star of the East", reprinting work initially published in Revolver magazine

This explains the story better than I can...

And here's Peter's signature

If you're put off by the excessive amounts of Eastern mysticism permeating this book, never fear because, as Peter explained to me, the 'corridor of uncertainty' referenced in the 3rd panel here is actually a reference to Geoffrey Boycott's cricketing commentary (where he coined this very phrase).

Here's a shot of the one and only strip Peter Milligan wrote for the new Eagle - this particular episode is from the issue dated 14th Feb 1987 - so 30 years ago today!

A Cam Kennedy special..
Sketchbook #1 produced 5 years ago by a comics shop in Belgium
www.lagrandeeourse.be or e-mail tony.lariviere@skynet.be
That shop has produced a series of sketchbooks, of which this is number 20 - all sketchbooks are low print-run (100-350 copies) but the production values are high, there's a mixture of colour and black & white art. I got this copy from them directly several years ago. Cam had a pile with him yesterday.
I didn't realise that the same shop had gone on to make a 2nd sketchbook (#21 in the series) as well. £15 well spent.
And signed...
