A lovely selection of 'The football comic' recently appeared on ebay and I've highlighted the covers here as early examples of the work of comics artist James 'Jim' Holdaway (wikipedia entry is here).
His artwork was recently celebrated in an 'Illustrators' special edition (number 10) that you can acquire here
