Today's offering is 'Strips 78' - this was was held on 22-24 September 1978 at the Prince of Wales suite at the Y hotel, Great Russell Street, London. The programme is A5 sized, 48 pages.

But I wanted to look at one convention in a little more detail - and use this blog posting as somewhere to host any and all images I can find about 'Comics 101'. Comics 101 was held on March 19th, 20th and 21st 1976 at the Royal Mount Hotel in London. 

The programme is A5 sized, 80 pages long and stuffed with art from a great selection of artists - many of whom are poorly represented in the other programmes I've looked at previously - mainly because they were working on (humour) strips in British comics that later convention organisers weren't interested in. Programme cover art is by Denis Gifford himself.

I'll get to a list of programme contributors shortly but I just wanted to also use this post as an ongoing reference piece for images, reviews etc. of Comics 101 that I come across in my researches.

First up is this from the 3rd Birmingham comic art show - I'd love to see examples of the programmes for show 1 & 2 (and were there further shows???)

So, a great selection of artists there - I highly recommend trying to track this down.

There was a '4th' comic art show (in 1988 - see advert in issue 4 of Heartbreak Hotel) but I'm unclear if there was a convention booklet produced for that.

The booklet was produced by Hassan Yusuf, Guy Lawley and Paul Hudson. Comics Showcase was a (great) comic shop in London. Interior art by David Lloyd (a 'V for Vendetta' image) and an Alan Davis image (of Captain Britain, Marvelman & Harry (from 'Harry 20 on the highrock').

Interesting to speculate if 'Comics Showcase' produced any other similar booklets...UPDATE - there weren't any others...

UPDATED: Marvel UK's 'Worzel Gummidge' weekly

For all fans of John Cooper's work don't forget that the Marvel UK Worzel Gummidge weekly (NOT to be confused with the Marvel UK Worzel Gummidge monthly) is stuffed full of his art. 

It seems like a hard set to collect so here's what I've managed to track down quickly...all covers by John...got any spare issues? Get in touch!

The title seems to have merged with Rupert weekly - here's issue #49 (dated 21st September 1983)...

...and here's issue #50 (dated 28th September 1983)  

according to this site Worzel weekly only lasted 23 issues (so last issue dated 10th August [1983]) before it merged with Rupert Weekly [28th September 1983] - so a 6 week hiatus from the end of Worzel weekly to it joining Rupert weekly. 

I've no idea if John Cooper's artwork continued to appear in Rupert weekly.
