Streetlife cover star - the Mekon!

This image seems to come up quite often and I can't always recall where it first appeared (as the title has often been cropped off the image). So, I'm just posting this here as an aide-memoire really.

It's from the newspaper Streetlife dated December 13-26 1975 (volume 1, issue #4)

2023 Bristol comic expo

I've looked at merchandise created for various comic conventions in the past and I just wanted to start a similar post for anything that I come across for the 2023 Bristol comic expo.

This is the first thing I've found but I understand that there was also a 'programme / brochure' produced for the expo - but I've yet to see this!

Anyway, let me know know if there's anything I've missed!

John Cooper - Storm Force art for 'Battle', part 2

I've swiped all these images from the "2000AD Original Comic Artwork" group on Facebook (here) for posterity as I was interested in how much of John Cooper's work on Storm Force for Battle had survived. More than I was expecting is the answer!

Here's the second selection...

The group also has plenty of examples of John's work on other strips for Battle

George Martin - DC Thomson

All images swiped from an ebay sale a while ago and collated here for posterity.

This is a letter from illustrator George Martin (who worked for DC Thomson) and is not to be confused with another George Martin who also worked for DC Thomson. Anyway since the letter contains his reminiscences of working for DC Thomson (and a lovely self portrait) I thought I'd collect it here on the blog.

Eaglecon 80 - part 6

It occurs to me that I've not covered anything to do with the very first Eagle comic convention - Eaglecon 80. A recent sale by ace ebay seller phil-comics (here) of one of the awards from Eaglecon 80 (see below) for £155 has inspired me to start looking images.

I looked at some initial images here
We had images about what was on display here
images of the original art that was on display here
the banquet dinner here
from the panels here

All these images are from the late, great Eagle & Dan Dare historian Adrian Perkins.

And now we have images featuring Frank Hampson

UPDATED: Etherington brothers comics - the early years

I've been interested in looking at the early comics works of the Etherington brothers for some time now and I've finally scooped up enough images to get me started. There's a lot of gaps here though so I'd be delighted for any help that anyone can give me.

THIS UPDATE: I've found a cover image for the 3rd Malcolm Magic trade paperback so I've included it here. John Bamber has also generously supplied me two commissions he picked up many years ago...

Yore!
This was (according to this link) was free with issue 6 of Dennis and Gnasher megazine #6. This was a collection of material that had previously appeared in The Dandy.

There's also Malcolm Magic. This appeared as single issues and then as collected editions. I don't have any images (yet!) of the single issues but I'm slightly better off with the collected editions. Here's volume 1...this has issues 1-3 collected

Malcolm Magic, trade paperback #2 (collects issues 4-6)

Malcolm Magic, trade paperback #3 (collects issues 7-9)

so that just leaves me looking for cover images for collected edition #4.

There was also a "consolidated" collected edition with all 12 issues & extra stuff.

When I tweeted about this search previously I was delighted to have some feedback from them with the following images...thanks again guys!

Tusk comic, Blink Twice publications, the Etherington Brothers

Moon! comic, Blink Twice publications, the Etherington Brothers

Malcolm Magic comic #1, Blink Twice publications, the Etherington Brothers

Malcolm Magic comic #2, Blink Twice publications, the Etherington Brothers

Malcolm Magic comic #3, Blink Twice publications, the Etherington Brothers

Malcolm Magic comic #4, Blink Twice publications, the Etherington Brothers

Malcolm Magic comic #5, Blink Twice publications, the Etherington Brothers

Malcolm Magic comic #6, Blink Twice publications, the Etherington Brothers

Malcolm Magic comic #9, Blink Twice publications, the Etherington Brothers

The Drawing board, Blink Twice publications, the Etherington Brothers

And here are the backs to some of those comics - top row is (I believe) issue 1, 2 and 3. I believe the bottom row is issues 4, 5 and 6
