DUDLEY D WATKINS ORIGINAL ART ELIZABETHAN SCENE 1924. Watercolour on paper applied to board. The signature is partially obscured by what is possibly the remains of glue from a previous mounting. A good watercolour restorer would probably be able to uncover the full signature. There is also a chip from the bottom edge which could be restored.. The painting is approx 21 x 15" and dated 1924 which was when Watkins entered the Glasgow School of Art at the age of 17. It is quite likely an exam piece or was drawn as part of his application to enter the school. A very early piece of art from the man who went on to draw Desperate Dan, Biffo, Broons and Oor Wullie among many others. A wonderful opportunity for the collector, researcher or art gallery.
